Meet the Team
Laura Wassinger, Director of Programming

Laura received her degree in Gerontology from Roosevelt University and worked as Director of Activities at Manor Care in Arlington Heights. Later she became the Recreation Supervisor of the Senior Center at the Northbrook Park District. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to start a Center from scratch with the goal of providing those 55+ intellectual, social and physical opportunities as they age-in place in their community.
She belongs to Illinois Township Senior Services Association (ITSSA) as well as the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Community Ambassador program.
She is CPR/AED certified as well as having her food-handling certification.
She is a certified Fit & Strong instructor. Laura was a certified Jazzercise instructor specializing in a Jazzercise Lite program specifically designed to benefit the senior population.
Laura served on her local high school board for 2 terms; she is experienced in collaborating with other governmental agencies, businesses and community groups.
Lynda Rohe, Director of Social Services and Education

Lynda received her degree in Social Work from Grand Valley State University and worked as a Hospice Social Worker in Michigan before coming back to Illinois. She then returned to school to obtain her Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Care from Southern New Hampshire University.
Lynda was the previous Executive Director of the Harvard Community Senior Center. Lynda and Laura collaborated on a number of projects to bring services to SOAR from Harvard. Lynda came to SOAR as a full time employee in May of 2024.
Lynda currently serves as the President of the McHenry County Task Force on Aging, Board Member of the Illinois Coalition for Mental Health and Aging and on the planning committee for the PIN (People in Need) Forum for McHenry County. Lynda is a certified Senior Health Insurance Counselor (SHIP), Fit and Strong, Matter of Balance & Tai Ji Quan Instructor.
She is CPR/AED certified and also has a food-handling certification.
Jennifer Hill, Program Assistant
Jen graduated from Cosmetology School in 1988. She worked at a salon while attending The Chicago School of Massage Therapy, until graduation. She previously owned and operated Past Tense Massage Therapy in McHenry.
In 2019 Jen apprenticed at Piscasaw Gardens to learn floral bouquet design in Harvard, IL. She eventually became the lead floral hostess at the Woodstock Farmers Market, and assisted with weddings and events at the farm.
